Barrel Horse

Overview:
Logo design and branding toolkit for The Barrel Horse, a signature alcohol and beverage service company out of Saukville, Wisconsin. The Barrel Horse is a mobile event bar made from a fully renovated 1980 Hartman tandem horse trailer. The client wanted an elevated brand that customers would see at events like weddings, graduation parties, birthday parties, showers, corporate events, concerts and festivals. The logo needed to be easily recognizable as a decal on the side of the trailer or on stickers. They also wanted alternate versions of the logo to be used on things like business cards, letterheads, email footers, and their website.
This project was a great fit because the client and I are like-minded go-getters with a strong creative vision. She knew what she was looking for and needed a designer with the skills to create a logo that would make her company stand out. We communicated directly and clearly about our expectations and feedback, which led us to the success of the final result. A big bonus was that I was just as excited as she was to see this company get up and running! I love working in the food and beverage space and was obsessed with her idea. We both love how it turned out.
Process:
I always start my projects with a free consultation meeting to fully understand the vision and ask questions so that I can bring my clients’ ideas to life. The client knew that they wanted the logo to feel old fashioned yet elevated, incorporating elements like a wine or whiskey barrel and typewriter font.
I start with sketches on the iPad and deliver 4-5 refined sketches to my clients so that they are involved in the process from start to finish. We have a meeting to discuss what’s working and what’s not working for them, and then the client selects a direction. Then I go into a more refined design phase and we go through two more rounds of feedback to get the design in a place that fits the client’s vision. During this project, the client liked elements from two of the sketches, so we combined the concepts to arrive at the final logo. The entire process takes about 2-3 months to complete.
